About
The first letter I ever learned was G.
Before I could actually read the paper, I used to go through the movie ads. I knew that if I found one with a G in the little box, Mom might take us to go see it.
I’ve been passionate about film for as long as I can remember. I was fortunate to do some professional acting as a kid, and I studied film and theater in Toronto for a few years. I stepped away for a bit to study Physics and work in healthcare IT. In doing so, I learned how to systematically approach problems to find innovative solutions as well as how to get the work done.
While most of my college classes were focused on math and science, I did take several English classes. I realized in my sophomore year that I hadn’t read any fiction recently, and I figured that taking one or two lit courses would help me get back into it. I love stories. And one or two quickly became five or six, and the department offered me a minor (something they weren’t offering to anyone when I started at the school).
For a few years after graduating, I helped healthcare systems configure and run their electronic health records. It was rewarding work, but I missed having that creative outlet. I missed the stories. Don’t get me wrong, I was still watching a ton of movies, but I wasn’t engaging at the same level that I wanted. So I decided it was time for a career change
I have greatly enjoyed working on set. As I said, I’ve been curious about the film industry since before I could actually read. However, I find I miss those technical problems. I miss being able to dive into something complex and systematically work toward a solution. I’m excited to find an opportunity that allows me to continue to grow those skills.
